Justices Take on Question of Patents
WASHINGTON (AP) -- What can - and cannot - be patented?
That fundamental question is before the Supreme Court for the first time in 25 years. How it's answered could lead to restrictions on new patents and open up to challenge literally tens of thousands of older patents on drugs, medical devices, computer software and other inventions.
The case is Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings v. Metabolite Laboratories Inc., et al., No. 04-607.
