Google Maps: SF Rentals and World Tours

CraigStatsSF uses Google Maps to display San Francisco apartments advertised in Craigslist. This project was born out of boredom, according to the creator, grad student Ethan Garner.



Thanks to BoingBoing for the picture of the heat map showing a citywide view of rental costs for one bedroom apartments over the last year.

To tour the world as seen from above, try GoogleSightseeing for unusual satellite images. Here's the supersonic fighter aircraft, parked in a mall parking lot, and the rooftop test track of Fiat's famous Lingotto building.

OutsideIn has a map of Brooklyn blogs, with time lapse icons comparing blogs and mainstream media stories, as well as a other maps for San Francisco.
The Malaysia blogger map was created by Cheeaunblog.

My Google Maps

Brady Forest has a piece in O'Reilly Radar on the launch of Google's MyMaps, pointing to their new capacity to add all geo-indexed web pages to their local search. A web page is geo-indexed via an associated KML file. No other search engine does this. Pete Cashmore's comments on this new product on Mashables.

RestoreKnoxville TN combines architectural, historical, and lifestyle information, using street data and satellite imagery from Google Maps and National Register historic narrative information.
